Ah, do I have a treat for future brides today! A hidden gem in Stellenbosch that is one of the most delightful places we’ve been lucky enough to stay at…
As far as I’m concerned, Majeka House is the ideal hideaway for newly marrieds. It’s really very special – tucked away down a Stellenbosch side road in an area called Paradyskloof just under the mountain, you wouldn’t have any idea just how stylish the rooms are, how thoughtful the details, how comfortable and luxurious the finishes.
We were lucky enough to get a poolside room on a crazy hot day, and spent the afternoon lounging by our own private pool, with loungers in the shade of big umbrellas, and breezy open doors leading through to our spacious lounge, bedroom and bathroom. All open plan, all stunning. I could quite easily have spent a week there…
Once we’d cooled off, we strolled over to the spa to experience a Himalayan salt crystal bath. And what an experience it was! An hour or so of colour therapy on a bed of warmed pink Himalayan salt with a head and foot massage thrown in for good measure… Quite amazingly relaxing and rejuvenating.
In fact, everything about Majeka House is relaxing and rejuvenating, from the carefully thought out décor details to the friendly staff and the lovely flower-filled gardens. It’s designed to make you feel like a million bucks. Once you’ve had your fill of spa treatments and private pools (if such a thing is possible!) the numerous wine farms of Stellenbosch are nearby, providing any number of day trips for you and your honey.
Just make sure you’re home in time for dinner. Well, first for pre-dinner drinks, in the fabulous bar. How amazing is this bookish wallpaper? I had to walk up to it to make sure it wasn’t a wall of books… The cocktail menu is delicious and it feels like a real occasion to sip drinks in the bar before dinner.
And then comes dinner itself. Oh my, what a dinner! Makaron restaurant is famous for its fine dining, and rightly so. We had an absolutely incredible meal. Impeccable service, superb fine dining, unique flavour combinations and amazing fresh, local produce served as beautiful artworks of food made this one of the best meals we’d had in ages…
Wake up after a night in your fabulous suite and breakfast is (almost) as much of a treat, with a groaning buffet table and hot menu, as well as Villiera bubbly on tap. Didn’t I tell you this was the ideal getaway for newly marrieds?
Until next time!
