• Our renovation has flown by and yesterday we started plastering in our house. Which is why my heart is beating double time. I have pieces of furniture sitting in our garage that i have been meaning to have recovered and restored for months and yikes, they still haven’t been done! What i would give to simply stroll in off the street and pick up some clean lined contemporary pieces from the lovely Tonic in Johannesburg.

Tonic is the lair of Phillip can der Merwe and Greg Gamble. The two have been rethinking contemporary South African furniture design for the past decade – in stylish homes, retail and c0mmercial concepts around the country. Despite the contemporary lines of many of their designs, they use old school skills for their artisan made pieces and are obsessive about quality craftmanship and they also collaborate with master ceramists and glassblowers for their complementary decor items.

my sister and brother had similar chests of drawers to the pale wood ones in these pix when we were growing up – i love this mix of semi retro pieces

the white chair and the dark wood cabinet are killing me and the blue velvet is exactly the shade of blue i’m looking for to cover the vrot wingback chair i bought

the high gloss ceramic hands are also killing me and i think the sofa on the left may be the most perfect sofa ever ever
