Joburg brides, have I found a treat for you!
One of the best decisions I made when planning my wedding was to spend two hours the day before the wedding having a massage. A fabulous, indulgent massage.
The day before the wedding is such a busy day – there are so many things to do, so many things to remember, so many people asking you what you want things to look like, that it can feel as if you’re entering a dizzy whirlwind. Taking time out to lie back and be pampered is the best antidote to this feeling.
I asked my Joburg friends where the ultimate spa experience in Joburg would be, and they all said the same thing: The Saxon. And they were right. From the moment you park your car at The Saxon, the pampering begins – with a chauffeur-driven trip to the front door, from where you’re ushered through the fabulously luxe lobby into the lift, which takes you into the spa itself. You’re given a few moments to change and ooh and aah over the Molton Brown toiletries, before being whisked off to the serenely dimmed treatment room.
And what a treatment it was! I had a 90 minute aromatherapy hot stone massage, and I can honestly say it was the best hot stone massage I have ever had in my life – by far. The therapist coaxed all the tension out of my muscles (and after a day of back-to-back meetings in Joburg, that was no mean feat!) and smoothed and eased away any memory of tension I might have had. It was a full body massage and at the end of it my body had turned to melted butter from the top of my head to the tips of my toes…
I remember thinking in the middle of the treatment, “This is so perfect for brides – not only will they not remember their To Do Lists, they’ll have trouble remembering their names!”
It was that good.
Of course, coming out of the treatment and straight into the fabulously Molton-Brown-scented bathroom and from there into the understated elegance of The Saxon hotel itself doesn’t hurt one bit – there’s nothing like being treated like royalty to make the transition from treatment into real life a little easier to bear.
If you have an opportunity to experience The Saxon Spa before your wedding, I would highly recommend it. It may just help transform you from an impending Bridezilla into a blushing bride…
Until next time!
