Some of you may remember Wallflower, the fantastic little gift store in Green Point owned by Stefan Blom? It was a beacon of contemporary cool – crammed full of quirky gifts and oozing effortless, fun style. When it closed a couple of years ago i wept a little tear, along with a host of fellow lovers of pretty stuff. So last week when i received an email from my lovely friend Mandy to tell me of a new store opened close to her i did a little happy dance.

Yes, yes, i’m prone to exaggeration but once you pop into Stefan and Dagmar’s sweet little neighbourhood store Marigold, you too will be swooning. Its a haven of ceramics and notebooks and heart-printed bowls and perfectly shaped vases and scented candles and affordable artworks and…well…stuff that makes your life and those around you prettier and altogether nicer.

Ooh, would that lovely friend be moi? Isn’t the store divine. Every time we walk or drive past my little punky says: ‘Mama, look at those fancy yellow doors. It makes me feel happy inside.’ Trust toddlers to tell it like it is.
