I love this time of year especially as it reminds me of my love, love, love for all things hearty.
Steffany Roup pendants
I wear my Steffany Roup heart and skull pendants almost every day and think of them as my talismans and even though I’ve had the heart for two years and the skull for about six months, people comment on them virtually every time I wear them. Skermunkel brooches
I’ve also coveted a Skermunkel pendant by one of Cape Town’s most talented independent jewellers Marietjie Beeslaar (check out her blog here) for a gazillion years and really love the brooches she makes too – you can find them at either of the Beatnik Bazaar stores (*see below for addresses) or go to the spiffy new website to order one if you’re not based in Cape Town.
The newest Beatnik store just opened this week (or was it last?) and it’s based inside the Mythology store (used to be Cape to Cairo) in Kalk Bay. The owner Thaya Bedford has a great eye for South African design talents and vintage collectables and her latest own-design dresses are sure to give you that happy-summery-flirty feeling when you try them on.
LadyLuckRulesOK Pendant
Then, while browsing the fabulous Adorn-London website, where South African-in-the-UK fashion and jewellery gal Juliet Hutton-Squire showcases the latest trends in jewellery, I came across one of her latest finds from indie design studio Lady Luck Rules OK. Reminiscent of ’50s tattoo art with a disco twist, this glitter pendant (which you can customise unless your name is actually Annette) is so fab and costs £8 (just under R100)…see if they’ll deliver to SA or perhaps ask a London-based friend to send you one. I’m definitely going to order one. And the card in the package will say To me, I think you really deserve this gorgeous pendant, love me. Xx
