Every now and then i find myself trying really, really hard to convince The Captain that actually, i should have been a member of the Amish. At which point his eyes glaze over as he glances at my very cluttered desk, my blog that actively encourages consumerism, the fill-to-bulging box of ribbons because-they-are-pretty and my increasingly increasing stash of vintage National Geographic maps which i know are going to come in use one of these days.

OK, OK so my other Amish-esque personality is very well hidden but still, pared down Shaker style does it for me…

…like the stuff you’ll find at Canvas, a US store that sources products from around the globe…

Hmmm…i love these golden spoons, clear glass bottles of water and perfectly handhewn everyday tableware and vases…

And round felt cushions for when friends pop in, sorted magazine collections and more handmade tableware of perfect proportions

…and the simplest upholstered bench in a clutter free hallway and kitchen shelves with things that fit just so …

so today, being the-day-before-the-first-day-of-Spring i am going to start spring cleaning, beginning with my overflowing inbox..that would be the good, Amish thing to do…

I love patterns, but like you, I sometimes find something pure and simple – clean minimalist and fall in love.
