I spotted a post about The Woodlands Eatery on the always inspiring Coelho Culture and when i went to go and take a closer look over the weekend realised its in the same place where my old favourite weekend haunt Yum used to be. Back when i lived in town, i lived in the teeniest apartment with a view of the sea and the city and about 100 steps from Yum which i used to visit at least twice a week.
The Woodlands Eatery has all the hallmarks of a lovely local. The menu is brimming with ribsticking fare – things like rump steak with mushroom sauce and also more sophisticated bites like deboned roasted quail with a wild rice, mushroom and pea risotto. I didn’t get to eat there when i popped in but i’m looking forward to returning soon for a taste of one their gourmet pizzas (the Parma ham, rocket, nectarine and goats cheese sounds amazing). The chef and owner Larry used to do his thing at Plettenberg Bay spot Emily Moon so on the food front, things are promising.
On the ambience and décor front, things are even more delicious. Larry and his wife Sarah spent days at a local demolition yard sourcing just the right worn wood to create their Woodlands Eatery look. I love the birdies and woodland creatures but i’m especially enamoured with all those lampshades – sheesh, they’re lovely.
So my kind of place – brimming with details, details, details…
oh happy day, i’ve just discovered my brideslavies are taking me there for lunch on Saturday..whoop whoop!
