I’ve been trying to get it together to visit Chandler House for a long time now and finally last week i managed to do so. Owned by the delightful Michael Chandler, an antiques specialist who has taken his artistic acumen and combined his extensive knowledge to curate an emporium of original pieces and decorative wares for the home.
You’ll find a plethora of pieces by Michael who seems to have an outstanding ability to conceptualise something, whether it be a ceramics, linen or decorative lust-have and make it happen in a relatively short time. I love the reference to Cape history, which is his passion and i love how many special finds there are from friends and fellow creatives he’s discovered.
There’s also a collection of art curated by him, seevral special auction finds and a range of beautiful smalls, Ikats and linen items sourced by architect and impeccable tastemaker Dominic Touwen. The effect and the combination is wonderful making this emporium a den-of-antiquities-meets-curiosities-cabinet.
If you love eclectic style, original ceramics, items that tell a tale and beautiful jewellery and textiles, then get thee to this Cape Town shop. Oh, and look out for the notebooks featuring historical drawings of wild animals at the Cape.
Chandler House is situated at 53 Church Street, Cape Town – a door up from Ashbey’s. Contact the shop on 083 423 2001
