• I love camping.I hate packing up. I quite like the part when we get there and are making house and deciding where the kitchen is going to be, but you can keep the pack up and break down, thank you, i HATE it and i become all teenagery, hiding away so The Captain (who is something of a camping sergeant major) can’t give me something else to do. If you’re in any way like me then Hey Pioneer is your (and my) kind of camping company! Oh, and do we need to talk about the hideousness of blow up mattresses that always, always, always deflate in the night?!

Here’s how it works – if you live in the Western Cape and you’ve booked a campsite somewhere (and even if you haven’t since they have booked loads in advance too), they will go ahead and set things up for the ultimate glamping experience. In spacious, swanky tents, with REAL beds and with REAL linen. How fabulous is that?! The tents are old-school Davey Crockett style canvas bell tents (totally waterproof, don’t worry), they’re super spacious and were imported from the US where they take camping seriously. Each Hey Pioneer setup also comes with a kit that includes kitchen essentials and chairs and a table are also included in each package.

Here’s what Hey Pioneer are passionate about: taking the shlep out of camping (in a big way), helping people to unplug and get back to basics, sharing amazing, out of the way, hidden gem campsites, helping poeple create memories and providing opportunities to have unforgettable weekends, celebrations and together time. Did i mention taking the shlep out of camping?

I leave you with a pic of The Captain trying to put an already inflated mattress into an already erected tent while we were camping in Lesotho in 2008 – a classic no go – this is why i (and probably many of you) need Hey Pioneer saved in your holiday go to address book.

That last photo is so funny. Did the mattress eventually get in or did you end up sleeping under the stars!

If you haven’t tried it, do it! We did it in November last year and for a serious non-camper like me it was an utter revelation!

Oh My Word – it seems that wherever I look I am being faced with camping tents. I had a hospitality client’s whose philosophy I adopted. He maintained he was happy to sleep under the stars, as long as it was no less than 3 Stars. LOL.
Camping not my scene at all. Something my family is all too familiar with. Having said that, I recently made the choice to help my son-in-law out at the Up The Creek Festival in Infanta. He has a food truck & was stretched for supervision. All that experience did was reaffirm the fact that I don’t do tents. His one staff member tried to help me set up a 4 man tent. No manual -and we battled. Eventually, we had something set up that I could sleep in. When I awoke the next morning, the tent was beginning to collapse in on me. That just did – I dismantled the tent ( with the help of one of the hundreds of strong young men there) and slept in the bak of my van that night. NEEDLESS to say,…… right at that point I could have done with some Hey Pioneer help. Next time ( if there is going to be a next time).

Camping is not my style – Loved the input from Rose – so courageous – I take my hat off to you!!!!!

To Vicki and Rose, it is because of situations like yours that we exist 🙂 There is nothing worse than a flimsy tent and a blow up mattress with a puncture, urg! We will be happy to help next time! Liesel x
