• I’ve always had a soft spot for pale blue. I remember when i moved into digs when i was at Stellenbosch, i was in a pale blue and white place and painted my chest of drawers and desk the prettiest pale blue and coordinated with blue and white chambray linen (it was ALL about the matchy matchy then). And though i seem to have a lot more turquoise and teal (and some navy) in my life now, looking at images of pale blue always put me in a happy space.

For the downstairs flat’s bedroom, i think i may revisit pale blue. Since we’re moving all our seascapes there (they used to be on our bedroom wall), i think it may well work as a subtle pop of colour – maybe a piece of furniture that’s painted will do the trick rather than an entire wall? I’m undecided.

Pale blue is such a classic hue PaleBlue2

Retro cool vs country cool – both lovely in their own way PaleBlue3

I like the blue tones here PaleBlue5

I like how pale blue fits seamlessly into this contemporary space in such a modern manner. PaleBlue6 I think this is the answer – to mix uo pale blue with other blues – navy and electric blue for example, that way you steer clear of a look that’s ‘too-country’ – the leopard print also takes things from country to contemporary.

I love the serenity of these interiors. I spent a happy Sunday yesterday playing with Annie Sloan chalk paint in Duck Egg and Aubusson Blue. It’s fab to work with as there is NO prep: just a quick dust and then you can paint right over any surface, and the colours are delicious! Check them out,Vix.

I have upcycled my bathroom mirror frames, an old round junk-shop side table and a little wooden laundry basket/seat/piano stool for the kids. And I am totally motivated to keep playing with colour.
