• Hello lovelies! So i’ve been promising to share the overhaul i gave a cheap and cheerful second hand buy for about 6 weeks and i just haven’t got around to it – my apologies! I finally got my act together to take a few pix – so here it is! I found the desk on Gumtree and co-erced The Captain into driving to Noordhoek to fetch it – his first words: ‘nice firewood’. But i didn’t care what he had to say – we really needed a little cupboard or bureau for our open plan kitchen area since what was our green grocery cupboard (see here about how we shifted things around) has been moved upstairs to become a linen cupboard. A bureau is perfect since i receive deliveries virtually every day and i don’t always get to them – and this way i can shove stuff out of sight to deal with later. Also, the drawers below mean i now have somewhere to neatly pack away fabric napkins and placemats and i haven’t figured out what the bottom two drawers are for.

OK, so here is the before pic of the pine ‘firewood’ in all its glory

On the morning we painted it, the rain was threatening to come down, so i literally ran into Builder’s Warehouse and ran out again – chose and had the colour mixed in 5 minutes flat – it was a bit of a gamble, but i’m thrilled with how it turned out

    What i did:

    • Gave the desk a light sand

    • Primed with one coat of primer

    • Painted with 2 coats of Dulux Blue Diamond 4 (tip: with high gloss paint – always use a sponge roller to avoid streaks)

Because the weather was terrible, it took 2 days to dry and to be honest it needs some touching up but i was in a rush and need to get back to that. I printed off some patterned paper off the net to line the little blocks and the drawers and hey presto – done and dusted!

I love it and it’s the perfect me-space for my stuff that collects!

What was the Captains comments on the finished piece? What a transformation, amazing what a coat of paint can do.
